These are crocheted dishcloths I made for Christmas presents.  I use 100% cotton or similar, with a yarn weight suitable for a 3.5mm – 4mm needle, but I use a 5 – 5.5mm hook, US size I.  I make 25 chain stitches then, starting with the fourth chain stitch from the hook, double crochet (US, or treble UK) 7 or 8 rows in one colour, then 7 or 8 in another colour.  Then I just single crochet (double UK) around the edges to make a simple border.

They work well, are washable and long-lasting, and take an hour or less to make.
